President of Algeria Heads to New York To attend the 78th UN General Assembly

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria embarked on a journey from his homeland to New York, USA, to participate in the 78th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Algerian presidency issued a statement confirming his departure for the United States to engage in the proceedings of this significant international event.

Upon his departure, President Tebboune was greeted with the national anthem and received an honorary salute from a formation of the Republican Guard at the Algiers International Airport. The Prime Minister, Ayman Ben Abderrahmane, the Chief of Staff of the Algerian Army, and the Director of the Algerian Presidency Office, Mohamed Nedjari Arabaoui, were among those bidding farewell to him.

In New York, President Tebboune has been engaged in a series of intensive activities since Saturday. These activities have included meetings and discussions with several heads of state, all leading up to the commencement of the 78th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The President has held numerous meetings and discussions with his counterparts from various countries, focusing on bilateral cooperation as well as international and regional issues. Earlier in the day, President Tebboune received his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, at his residence in New York, followed by a meeting with the Swiss President, Alain Berset.

At the United Nations headquarters, he engaged in discussions with his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raïssi, and the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Approximately 140 world leaders are participating in the UNGA, which aims to revitalize the “2030 Sustainable Development Agenda” adopted in 2015. The 78th session of the UNGA, presided over by Trinidad and Tobago’s Permanent Representative, Dennis Francis, will address various global challenges, including peace, progress, and well-being.
